Stirling Young Curlers was the brain child of a group of Curling Parents in 1983/84, who felt that Stirling Ice Rink needed a Junior Club.
In 1985 the club’s first Presentation of Prizes was held using trophies donated by several people and became affiliated to the Royal Caledonian Curling Club. Since then SYC has gone from strength to strength.
The club has been based at the National Curling Academy in the Peak at Stirling Sports Village since 2010 and meets there on Saturday mornings.
We have 60 children divided into 2 sections Juniors 8.30 – 10.30 and Seniors 10.45 – 12.45,
The coaches who volunteer to work with the children are all Scottish Curling Qualified and they enjoy running lots of fun sessions like ‘short curling’ alongside teaching the technical skills and rules of the game.
All members take part in club competitions, friendly matches with other clubs and ice rinks then when they are more experienced, are encouraged to form teams and play on the Scottish Curling Junior Circuit in the Asham Under 14, Under 17 & Under 21 years.
Currently our Secretary Emma Lamb, with the help of our Parent Committee, is working on a plan to help the children filter more easily into adult clubs. This would help ensure the future of the sport of curling.
Over the years we have had many members go on to win Competitions, Scottish Curling Championships, European and World Championships, and some of our present members are beginning their journey on the circuit this season, fingers crossed for them.
