First experience of Curling on outside ice in Boat of Garten near Aviemore, then in Aviemore Ice Rink.
1980 Stirling Ice Rink at Williamfield opened.
Attending coaching sessions there I received excellent teaching and understanding of curling tactics from experienced curlers.
Joined 2 clubs, Forth Valley Ladies CC and Torbrex CC, competed in club & local competitions, eventually at National Level Competitions, Scottish Ladies Championship, Scottish Seniors & Master (winners 2009).
1986 Attained a Royal Caledonian Curling Club coaching qualification.
Teaching beginners & adults, children on Saturday mornings and mid-week in Stirling Ice Rink.
1986 my daughter joins the junior curling and I am asked to help, by 1988 myself and Irene Herd are head coaches of SYCC, the rest is history.
We set up a system of qualifications for SYC & Junior Curlers which has been adopted by Scottish Curling as their ‘Skills Awards’.
Initiate a Junior Development Group for talented children who wish to improve their skills for introduction to competing on the Scottish Junior Curling Circuit.
Coaching
Taught beginners, improvers, teams, corporate days, one to one sessions and in other ice rinks, once in England.
Coach of junior teams playing at National Level, several went on to win Championships, Michael Goodfellow & Scott Andrews among them.
Scottish Curling Level 2 coach, as a Coach Tutor and Assessor I support new coaches going through their training but also continue with my own training attending courses every year adding to my knowledge and am interested in any new ideas or methods of coaching.
2006 awarded Torch Trophy Trust Award for services to curling.
I have served on several curling committees and was one of 24 ladies selected to represent Scotland on a 3 week Curling tour to Western Canada.
Lead Coach for after school club on Thursday afternoons ‘On The Button CC’.
Having been given the best tuition and help at the beginning of my curling career it is my aim to give others the same experience of this wonderful sport of curling which I love and has given me confidence, so much fun and friends.
